BOOKS FOR ESL STUDENTS

Hey ESL Rockstar!!! These books for ESL students post was one I wanted to write for some time now. What I usually recommend as you are working on improving your English is to read things that are :

1) Of interest to you.

2) Within your English level (not your reading level in your native language.) I mean challenging yourself is great but you don't want to challenge yourself too much as that can lead to lack of motivation when it gets tough.

Here are some tips for improving your English Reading Skills:

It is quite ok to read a sentence more than once if you want to grasp the understanding of it, however if the goal is to improve reading and speed then that isn't necessary. Ultimately you do want to make sure your read and comprehend. (One step at a time)
Read aloud if you can, I find it that I grasp things better when I read them aloud.
Remember overtime as you read you will realize that you wont have to pay attention to every single word as you read because you will start to understand context and also be able to group certain words or phrases and that will ultimately help you.
You don't have to stop at every vocabulary word that you do not know, not if reading is your focus, or course if it is reading comprehension and all that then for sure learn the words as you go along. This really depends on your goals.

BEGINNER

LEARN TO READ by Starfall Education

Starfall Education books are actually quite small and a very quick read. It really helps your to practice your phonetics as you read. The great thing about this too is that there is an app for it so you can hear the book being read. So you can use this to make sure your pronunciations are correct. You can find a copy of here.

WEIRD BUT TRUE by National Kids

This one is for all my educational buffs (people who like learning) this is a book that states some weird but funny enough, true facts about animals across the world. SO with this not only are you practicing your English but you are learning even more and practicing your comprehension along the way. Grab a copy here.

DR. SEUSS

Dr. Seuss is a quite popular book in the English world, very simple and easy to read. There is also a collection so you can read them all. Get your copy.

ONE DAY by Helen Naylor (Cambridge English)

One Day is a book in the Cambridge English Reading Series, the text is readable and manageable. You can embrace it as well as the story. Order it here.

INTERMEDIATE

DIARY OF A WIMPY KID by Jeff Kinney

I think everyone has heard me talk about this one now. I recommend this to ALL my students, no matter what level. It is written as though you were really writing in your diary so the tenses used can be very helpful for you to see and know how they are used. Buy it here.

AESOP'S FABLES

These are a stories that are well known, the reason for this is to help you read, comprehend and think as all of Aesop's fables have some kind of lesson behind it. You can ready and try to figure it out, Grab your copy.

THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA by Earnest Hemingway

This book, another popular one is a great read to help you with your reading skills. Get it now.

ADVANCED BOOKS FOR ESL STUDENTS

ATOMIC HABITS by James Clear
