ENGLISH AND YOUR EMOTIONS

English and Your Emotions...you may be thinking what do your emotions have to do with learning English right??

A LOT !

Remember when I told you some time ago that it’s not just practicing, there are mental things that also do affect your improvement.

So let’s get into this, as this is a touchy topic for some people. I can say that because I know I get emotional sometimes and it gets the best of me. My thing is that, when  you know how to control your emotions, that is an amazing thing.

✨NOT TO WORRY THOUGH…..IN TIME…✨

English and Your Emotions

It is the same with practicing English, you can’t practice today because you feel great, motivated and in a good mood THEN tomorrow you get in an argument with your significant other and decide..“I am too upset to practice English today’’.

To be honest there are people who learn English just for the sake of a partner but my biggest suggestion is that whether or not that relationship makes it, keep working on your English because it all goes back to opportunities being opened for you. 😁

Now I don’t want you to think that when we talk about emotions it only has to be about relationships, it could be so many things, a bad day at work, tired, just not in the mood, sad, angry. Just don't let these emotions cause you to derail from improving.

Maybe some emotions you feel are:

👉 Hopelessness

👉 Boredom

👉 Anxiety

👉 Anger

What can you do about English and your emotions?…

First thing to note is that this may be different for everyone as each person is different. To avoid some of these emotions taking over you can:

  1. Just plough through it. At first you may tough it out but it doesn’t make a big difference but if overtime you keep doing that, then guess what, you may just get that breakthrough.

2. Don’t take on anything too challenging when you are in a bad mood because this could make things worse. Taking on too much can cause you to lose the little motivation that you have in that moment.

  1. Take a relaxing breath before you begin and be present in that moment. Don’t let your mind stray to all kinds of things, just focus on your English for that time.

4. If you have a speaking partner, have a deal with them that when things like this happen you can talk with them to express it in English if you are comfortable sharing the issue or just to distract you from the issue, either one because they both get you to practice.
