PHRASAL VERBS AND NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS
Using Phrasal Verbs and New Year's Resolutions can be so daunting and scary sometimes. So I decided why not do a few together?
Before starting, here are some things we need to remember:
- If it is before the new year started then you would use your future tenses.
- Think about things that you know are possible for you. (Too often people set New Year's Resolutions and then do nothing)
PHRASAL VERBS AND NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS YOU CAN USE
CUT DOWN/BACK ON
This means to use or do something less.
Resolution Example: I am going to cut down on coffee for the new year.
GIVE UP
To stop doing something.
Resolution Example: I am going to give up smoking.
BRUSH UP ON
To improve or practice a skill that you already know about.
Resolution Example: I plan to brush up on my English reading skills.
WORK ON
This means to try to improve or make something better.
Resolution Example: I intend to work on building a solid morning routine.
CUT OUT
To stop doing something.
Resolution Example: I will definitely have to cut out my late night eating next year.
CATCH UP ON
To do something you had not done in awhile, to get up to speed.
Resolution Example: I need to catch up on the books I didn't get to read this year.
TAKE UP
To start something new.
Resolution Example: I am going to take up knitting next year.
SLIM DOWN
This means to lose weight.
Resolution Example: I plan to slim down in the coming year.
STICK TO
This means to continue doing something.
Resolution Example: I intend to stick to a strict work schedule next year.
SAVE UP
To gather or collect something for a specific purpose.
Resolution Example: I am going to start saving up for a new apartment next year.
TRY OUT
To test out something new.
Resolution Example: I am going to try out the new gym that opened next door.
MAKE UP
This is correcting something.
Resolution Example: I need to make up for the time lost with my family due to the pandemic.
