WHAT ARE COLLOCATIONS?

Collocations are those words or combination of words that are often used together such as Big Mistake not Larger Mistake, Heavy Rain not Weighty Rain and Fast Car not Quick Car.

1. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

This marketing collocation is often used, as this refers to how happy a customer really feel after using or interacting with the product or services offered by a company. For this to happen the customer needs to be the main focus for any business and that is why customer service is also of such importance.

Example: A high level of importance should be placed on customer satisfaction in any business.

2. TARGET MARKET

Target market may be seen as a specific group of consumers which a product or service may be aimed at.

Example: The key target market for our shoe company are young athletes.

3. TARGET AUDIENCE

This is a bit similar to target market however target audience is where an advertisement is aimed at a specific group of people.

Example: The target audience is for younger athletes who want to feel comfortable when running marathons.

4. BRAND AWARENESS

This is how well a brand is recognized or even remembered by potential customers in different situations.

Example: We need to improve brand awareness if we wish to control the market.

5. POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS

This is a person who has the ability to become a consumer or purchase of a service or products.

Example: We have so many potential customers because of the Facebook advertisement we ran last week.

6. MARKET SHARE

Market share is usually considered that amount or portion of the market that is controlled by a specific company or product. It is usually based the total in terms of revenues and sales that the company or product generates over a period of time.

Example: Many companies have been losing their market share since the pandemic started.

7. TOUGH COMPETITION

This is where a company is fighting in the business world to be better than another company. This too can be based on sales or revenue over a period of time.

Example: If we plan to put out a new cell phone brand we have a lot of tough competition to deal with.

8. BRAND IDENTITY

Brand identity refers to those things that you can visibly see which are linked to a brand. Things such as their logo, colors, designs etc. That way you know whenever you see those colors or that logo you know which company or product it is. For example a very popular brand most people know is Coca-Cola, so when this is heard things like the polar bear or the red logo may come to mind.

Example: It is important to have strong brand identity.

9. MARKETING CAMPAIGN

Marketing campaign is something that we hear quite often especially in todays digital age. It is really just putting together a strategy so that you can promote a certain product or service in order to get sales.

Example: There are so many creatives that are a part of this marketing campaign.

10. ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN

Advertising campaign is very similar to marketing campaign the only difference is that the advertising campaign is where you actually structure persuasive messages in order to get to the companies sales goals.

Example: Sales increased because of the advertising campaign.
